The First Brews at the New Brewery
We hope the summer has been good to you. Things have not been standing still here at ÅBEN. In fact, quite the opposite. Since the last update the brewhouse has been tried and tested and it feels good to say that it is finally fully functional.
The brewers have been running fast ever since they got the thumbs up to start off the brewing processes, and to pay homage to the beer that kickstarted the ÅBEN journey, the first brew ever to be done at the new brewhouse had to be Bryg 61. Quickly followed by ÅBEN’s 5th Anniversary beer. A crisp and clean Double West Coast IPA developed by our dear brewer Lasse, who has been a central part of the ÅBEN family since 2020.
And just this week the first ever German Lager brewed by ÅBEN was kegged and canned in the new facilities. It is called Elm and the recipe has been made by our brewer Jack who joined the team back in April. If you want to try Elm, or some of the other beers that was recently brewed you can find all of them in the webshop now.
Read on below where you can find details about the specifications of the new brewery.
The New ÅBEN Brewery in Numbers
To give you some details about the new brewery, the fully automated brewhouse from BrauKon consists of five 20 hl (2,000 liter) vessels. This gives us a theoretical capacity of doing 11 brews a day (3,6 million litres of wort a year). The cellar (where the beer is is fermenting and is stored) now has:
- 4 x 20 hl CCVs (8.000 liters in total)
- 4 x 40 hl CCVs (16.000 liters in total)
- 4 x 80 hl CCVs (32.000 liters in total)
- 2 x 80 hl BBTs (also called The Twins - 16.000 liters in total)
- 14 x 10 hl BBTs (14.000 liters in total)
CCVs: Cylindroconical fermentation vessels
BBTs: Bright Beer Tanks
To put the numbers into perspective - with the new brewery in Copenhagen, ÅBEN will tenfold the capacity from the old brewery in Kolding.
You can see some of the different vessels from the images below. It will be on one of these tanks you can find your name imprinted. More info about that will follow.
See you soon.
