UK Collab Tour 2021

In early November, ÅBEN travelled over seas to brew some exciting new beers with good friends in the UK. On the tour we were fortunate to stop by the two recognised Manchester based breweries Pomona Island and Rivington Brew co as well as the London based Mikkeller Brewpub. Read on for a short recap of how we spent the days, and which beers your can look forward to.

Pomona Island

The first stop on the tour was Pomona Island. We were first personally introduced to the kind people at Pomona Island when ÅBEN took part of the Leeds based festival Hop City in August this year. Here, we quickly agreed that it could be fun to do a beer together - flash forward 2 months, you can now look forward to the first ÅBEN x Pomona Island beer. The day was spent with tour of the brewery and a nice night out in Manchester.

The Beer: Well known for their incredible sours, we went for a fruited sour made with verdita. Verdita is Spanish for green and well known for accompanying a shot of tequila. It brings spice and a hint of tropical notes of pineapple and mint. Definitely different to what we have previously brewed, so excited for how it turns out.

Rivington Brew Co

After Pomona Island we took the short drive to the picturesque Rivington Brew Co. We were fortunate to experience the farm in beautiful Autumn colours. Rivington is a truly magical place and everyone should make sure to visit the brewery if you ever find yourself around Manchester. With a great taproom, incredible views and the nicest people it's definitely worth travelling for. The UK brewing industry is much characterised by the same openness we experience in Denmark, so the great guys from Pomona Island stopped by after our collab day with Rivington and they all made sure we experienced the best pubs of Manchester.

The Beer: The program of the day was to brew a nice DDH IPA, and we can't wait to see how it turns out and share it with you.

Mikkeller Brewpub London

The final stop on ÅBENs UK tour was the always lovely Mikkeller Brewpub. Located on Exmouth Market, it is one of these incredible gems in London, where you instantly feel at home. ÅBEN’s Communication Manager is currently based in London, and this is close to her second home. Always nice finding good friends in new cities. The brewery is located within the bar and it is an efficient and impressive set up, where curious guests can follow the process. We spent the day finalising the brew together with Head Brewer Mark and Nick - and as it was a Friday, we made sure to celebrate that we reached the weekend.

The Beer: You can look forward to a dark Baltic porter brewed with smoked malt. It's quite different from what is usually brewed in Kolding, and we're really excited to taste result with all of you when it goes on tap. Stay tuned for tap take over news.
