Beer Cocktails for New Year’s Eve 2022

Celebrating New Years always comes with good food and something great to drink. Maybe champagne is the first thing you think of, but if you want to try something different to welcome the year of 2022 these beer cocktails will definitely impress both you and your party.

The two cocktails are made with ÅBEN beers and they have been developed by Mathias Broksø, Creative Bar Manager at Timm Vladimirs Køkken. Hopefully, they will serve as a festive input to mark your New Years. Scroll down to find the recipes, and find a bundle with both beers here. Cheers and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

If you want to try and recreate these cocktails you can find them on the ÅBEN webshop. It is possible to buy the beers separately but you can also choose the New Year Bundle where you get 6 beers in total - 3 Stolen Citrus Fruits and 3 Stolen Jingle Berries.

Stolen Year Highball

About: A beer cocktail with ÅBEN’s Stolen Citrus Fruits, to celebrate that we have finally put another year behind us that was “stolen” by the pandemic.

Ingredients:

20ml Suze
20ml Velvet Falernum
10ml Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao (orange liqueur)
2 dashes of orange bitters
Top with Stolen Citrus Fruits, approx. 200ml

Technique: Build the entire cocktail in the glass. First, fill it with ice. Mix the liqueurs into the glass. Top with Stolen Citrus Fruits. Peel a long slice of lemon zest and gently squeeze the oils from the zest over the glass. Cut the slice of lemon zest nicely and tighten it up in a spiral to decorate the cocktail - like serpentines in New Year fashion.

Big Berry Sour

About: This cocktail is a twist on the neo-classic New York Sour - a whiskey sour with a layer of red wine on top of the drink. Here the red wine is replaced with the sour Berliner Weisse, which creates a fresh balance to the Christmassy whiskey sour that hides under the beer. Enjoy this cocktail that slowly evolves from the first sip of the sour beer to the sweet cocktail beneath. Or, stir everything together for a more uniform cocktail.

Ingredients:

50ml Stauning Rye Whisky
25ml Freshly squeezed lemon juice
20ml Vanilla sirup*
20ml Egg whites
2 dashes of orange bitters
Float with ÅBEN’s Stolen Jingle Berries, approx. 100ml

*Vanilla sirup: Cut open a vanilla bean and put both the bean and kernels into a saucepan along with 200g cane sugar and 100g water. Heat the syrup while stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Let the syrup rest for 24 hours before use. The longer you let it rest the more vanilla flavour you will get.

Technique: Pour all ingredients (except beer) into a cocktail shaker and shake well - first without ice, then add ice cubes and shake again. Sift the cocktail over a large ice cube and gently pour the Stolen Jingle Berries on top of the ice cube so that the beer floats at the top of the drink (pour it along a bar spoon to pour as slowly as possible. A normal spoon can also be used as long as you pour it as slow as possible).
